Anthony the Lord Scales & the 2nd Earl Rivers is 36 years of age at the start of War & Roses. The eldest son of Sir Richard Woodville the Earl Rivers, Anthony is the younger brother of Lady Elizabeth Woodville, the wife of King Edward IV. He began the War of the Roses as a Committed Lancastrian, fighting at both Blore Heath and Ludford Bridge 1459 under his father. His family arms are a red fesse and canton on a field of white. His personal badge is a yellow shell. Lord Scales is known as a handsome bachelor and accomplished tournament knight.
Sir Anthony fought alongside his father, brothers, and brother-in-law at the Second Battle of St. Albans and at the Battle of Towton in the year 1461. Lord Scales was named Captain of Calais in 1464 by King Edward. Lord Scales is known as a scholar, poet, and a fine jouster, perhaps one of the best in England or the Continent. In the year 1467 he tilted with and defeated Antony the Bastard of Burgundy in a champions tournament held in London.
This chivalrous knight fought at Edgecote Moor in 1469 as well, where he was wounded by a Lancastrian arrow. He is unmarried and is a Committed Yorkist. Anthony is the guardian of Prince Edward, the youngest child and heir to his brother-in-law King Edward IV.
